Waves Made New
Being caught in a wave can be a frightening experience unless you know how to surf.
How often in our careers are we taken by surprise with a disruption to our plans that were ‘supposed’ to be smooth-sailing?
Ask anyone who is ten years into their career and I would venture a guess they have, at minimum, three big examples of disruptions. Those who are mid-career have many more. And those heading towards retirement have “sailed the ocean blue.”
The waves of the ocean are consistent. They WILL crash onto the shore. We are not absent from the disruptions that will occur in life. So doesn’t it make sense to learn to ride the wave?
When The Wave Is Rising…
Recognize the change in circumstances that require you to alter course.
When You Are Fighting The Current…
Re-establish the common ground you once had with your company or team until such a time that you can escape the toxic work culture.
When You Are Drowning…
Raise your hand and ask for help. Don’t journey this part alone.
When The Current Has Pulled You Away…
Rest your eyes on the vision that you once had and swim back.
When The Wave Recedes Into Calm…
Rejoice in a season of respite from the storm.
I am reminded of this Scripture: “The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, than the mighty waves of the sea.” (Psalm 93:4).
“Waves made new” means we stop fighting the ever-present storms in life which create the disruptions, and instead remember Who is in control and learn to surf.
