The Uncomfortable Zone
Do you want to know why change is harder as an adult?
I suppose, for me, it’s because when I was younger there was a “magical” time when I would have “arrived;” and therefore, would know more to know better so I could avoid the hard parts of adulting.
Well, that didn’t work out like I had planned.
Change is uncomfortable because it involves metamorphosis… transformation… an arrival at a different state, place or being than the one before.
That process is uncomfortable.
This 2020 year has produced many opportunities for change and if you’re like me, that process has lacked the warmth of knowing what is next.
Whether it is change in business or one’s career journey, the unknown road ahead can be…
…insert synonyms for uncomfortable:
Painful.
Intolerable.
Disagreeable.
Confining.
Unbearable.
Interestingly, I had these same feelings at another time in my career: right before I HAD to make a change.
The hardest part about going through a change in life is going the road alone. The feelings of discomfort were tougher when I had to journey that without another peer, friend, or coach. When I had the Career Coach to help me with my second change in my career, it was:
a.) exponentially faster
- and -
b.) more joy-filled
Don’t journey the road alone.
The Zone of Career Change becomes easier when you have someone who can show you blindspots, pot holes, re-directs, and to cheer you over the finish line.
