Can't Read The Label Inside The Jar

“You know you’re really more than a Career Coach.”

This is what a client said to me last week. It really made me think.

I never wanted to be called a Life Coach. It was too much fluff and not enough substance for me. No disrespect to the Life Coaches out there… It just wasn’t me.

But here I was listening to a client and realizing, “ok, maybe this is a being inside the jar and not being able to read the label kind of moment.”

It helped to have her perspective. We’ve been working together very closely for the last six weeks. And I had to realize, that perhaps I’m not branding as closely as I can to what’s going on in my own business.

According to my client, my work is holistic.

I chewed on that for a while and realized, yes, that’s pretty fair. My work with clients takes them from uncertainty to clarity, no plan to a targeted strategy, confused communication efforts to complimentary branded marketing documents, and I’m the accountability partner as they arrive at their next opportunity.

She was right.

We all need those around us who can help us see what we can’t because we’re down in the weeds. Or maybe we’re looking up but have so many things on our plate that we can’t focus on that “one more thing.”

The parallels here to what I do as a Career Coach are astounding. Quite literally, I come alongside busy professionals and help them be able to get focused quickly within a framework that affords adapting to them as individuals and their circumstances.

If you’re wondering why you haven’t made progress in your career, my hunch is you just need someone to see what is too difficult for you to see on your own.

Editors exist as a profession because they come into a writer’s arena and pick up on the corrective work to what the writer can’t see because in the writer’s head they read what isn’t there.

Even in my first career as an architect, there were several points along the project process where the quality assurance checkpoints were scheduled just so we wouldn’t miss details because we were “too close” to the project.

We are in THE MOST dynamic, ever-changing, and adaptable type of job market and hiring scene.

If there was a time to invest in yourself through a critical career adjustment, I believe that time is now.

The last moment many of us paid for something substantive for our careers was college. And that costs quite a lot more than me as your Career Coach.

So, here’s the question to ask yourself:

If I need someone to help me in my career, do I want someone who can successfully execute all aspects of the career alignment process?

If you need help with clarity… the resume… the LinkedIn branding… the job search strategy… and want that inside Recruiter knowledge that I carry, I invite you to book a time to discuss working with me.

We’re in unprecedented times. And I’m hustling because I want to see as many people as possible line up to do what they are created to do.

I’m all about reaching people for careers; one professional at a time.

If you’re happy in your career lane, share this with someone who is struggling.

Just like this picture of seeds inside the jar, I will take the beauty of what’s already inside you as a client and nurture that so you can grow into something even more fulfilling within your career.

Stay tuned in May for a BIG announcement. From me and my clients. So excited…..

And to my client who was the spark for this article, you know who you are, thank you!
